The 458 Spider was first introduced to the American market as a 2012 model.  It was designed by Pininfarina. The 458 Spider came standard with a 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine which produces 562 horsepower. It also came with a very smooth and responsive F1 dual-clutch transmission. The 458 Spider will get from 0-60 mph in about 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 198 mph - almost identical performance figures to the 458 Italia. The 458 Spider was the first mid-engined Ferrari convertible to use a folding metal roof. The previous-generation 360/430 used a fabric roof. The new aluminum roof saved 55 pounds compared to the previous generation's convertible/structure. To transform the 458 Spider from coupe to convertible you simply press a button to start the process and which only takes 14 seconds from start to finish. The 458 Spider is the ultimate convertible.  All the features that make the 458 great are present in the 458 Spider as well.  Versus the Italia, the Spider offers the driver the added benefit of putting the top down to hear even more of the glorious sound that comes from the high revving V8.  In all likelihood, the 458 Spider will be the last naturally aspirated mid-engine car Ferrari ever builds.  For that reason alone, purchasing a 458 Spider would be a wise and smart decision.
